DESCRIPTION:  Conexion Americas implements Parents as Partners parental engagement program for Latino parents in MNPS. This program, offered in Spanish and led by trained parent volunteers, seeks to build a strong working relationship between Latino parents and schools. Parents learn about child development, using positive but firm discipline at home, how to create a strong learning environment at home, how to interact with school staff and advocate for their child at school, as well educating them about the U.S. education system and how to navigate the system. There are pre-K, elementary, middle and high school level curriculums tailored to the needs of the parents at each level.

ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY: Conexion Americas implements the Parents as Partners program at three or four schools every semester, usually located in Antioch. Parents are welcome to attend at any site, regardless of whether or not their child attends that school.

FEES:  No

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Conexion Americas utilizes a post program evaluation to measure parents’ increased knowledge of the school system and increased confidence in their abilities to help their child with learning in the home and as an advocate for their child at school.
