DESCRIPTION: VIGH’s Community Health Initiatives works across programs and localities to engage individuals and aggregates as active participants improving the health and well-being of their own communities. In Nashville, we have conducted needs assessments with refugees; mentored Vanderbilt undergraduate and graduate students to ensure a culturally and contextually appropriate approach to outreach in diverse populations; and partnered with refugee- and immigrant-serving agencies to expand their outreach and service to these populations.

ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY: We are able to provide cultural background information on particular immigrant and/or refugee groups, broad overviews of Nashville’s foreign-born populations, and other educational sessions. Depending on student and faculty interest/capacity, we may also be able to provide interns, researchers, and additional human capacity resources with both Vanderbilt University and Medical Center connections.

FEES: There are no fees associated for partnership with VIGH-CHI.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: VIGH-CHI focuses on community programs as agents of empowerment to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable populations, including refugees and immigrants, victims of domestic abuse, and persons with limited access to health care, both locally and abroad. As we partner with community agencies, we are committed to sharing our outcomes and outputs with our partners and the community.
