DESCRIPTION: We help families, including immigrant families, advocate for their children to get medically necessary health and mental health care from TennCare or CoverKids or who are looking for health care resources. We provide ongoing advocacy services to parents who call the Tennessee Justice Center needing assistance, as well as referrals to other organizations or attorneys, when appropriate. We believe that healthy children are better learners and that access to quality health and mental health care helps children reach their academic potential.
ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY: We accept clients who are trying to access health care through public programs. We serve about 350 clients per year. We also often provide community education presentations about navigating the health system to community groups. We have a staff of 4 attorneys and 4 client advocates who work closely with our clients and their parents to help clients access needed TennCare services, which will prepare their children for successful classroom learning.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Since 1996, we have had many successes. We experience small gains every day as we help our clients get the services they need, as well as larger legal victories that protect all of Tennessee’s most vulnerable children. The Tennessee Justice Center regularly tracks and reports our activities and outcomes.
