DESCRIPTION:  The goal of Community Food Advocates’ SNAP (Food Stamps) Outreach and Advocacy Program is to ensure that all Middle Tennesseans who are eligible for food stamps are receiving them. We provide free pre-screenings and application help, both in person and over the phone. We have access to telephonic interpretation services, so we can help clients who speak any language. We do presentations to groups about the rules of the Food Stamp Program, and work to dispel myths associated with the program. We also help individuals with their food stamps appeals by serving as their representative during the appeal hearing. We also offer training to other service providers interested in doing food stamp outreach to the clients they service. If someone is having trouble putting food on the table, they should call us to find out if they are eligible to participate in SNAP. We can give them the information they need to help make their application process with the Tennessee Department of Human Services as smooth as possible.

ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY:  Presentations can be made at any MNPS school. We can met with MNPS staff on-site for trainings on how they can help families participate in the Food Stamp Program.

FEES:  No

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  We record our outreach monthly.
