DESCRIPTION: Services include: Assistance applying for and accessing needed social adjustment services. Interpretation and intercultural conflict resolution to enhance cross-cultural understanding. Health screenings several times a year in partnership with Vanderbilt medical students. Assisting filling out immigration forms. Programs Include: Employment program in which we help clients build a resume, search for jobs, apply for jobs online, and give referrals to other vocational training programs when needed. ESL, Citizenship preparation, and computer classes weekly. College and scholarship application assistance. Mentor program to pair a volunteer with a client to help tutor them in English, citizenship preparation, and/or college application process.
ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY: Our services are available to any refugee and immigrant who resides in Tennessee.
FEES: Interpretation services may cost and rates are variable. We charge a small fee for assisting in filling out immigration forms.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: We have 7 staff members, and an ever-growing volunteer base. Information on each client we work with is entered into a central database. This information can be extracted for reporting purposes at anytime. We also take copies of certain clients’ permanent resident cards, driver’s licenses, and social security cards. We measure ESL students’ growth by administering a test every period. We also check back with each of our citizenship preparation students to find out when and if they passed. A staff member has also been designated to monitor the employment program, and she tracks our clients’ job searches and alerts them of local job openings.
