DESCRIPTION:  WIC provides free nutritious food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and healthcare referrals for pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5.  Foods provided include cereal, whole grain products, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, 100% juice, milk or soy alternative, cheese or tofu, eggs, dried beans or peas, peanut butter, canned fish (breastfeeding women only), infant cereal, infant fruits and vegetables, infant meat (fully breastfed infants only), and infant formula.

ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY:  To receive WIC benefits, participants must live in Davidson County, fall within one of the aforementioned categories, and meet income eligibility guidelines. Income eligibility criteria are based on family size and can be found at the website listed above.  For those who would like to sign up to receive WIC benefits, call the WIC information line at 615-340-7788 to find a WIC clinic near you.  For those who are already receiving WIC benefits and would like to find the nearest WIC Mobile pick-up site, please call Lauren Bradford at 615-300-5149.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federally funded supplemental nutrition program, administered through state and local health departments.  The purpose of the program is to prevent and improve nutrition-related health concerns in vulnerable populations.  Health outcomes are evaluated periodically by measuring each participant’s height, weight, and blood iron level.
